Sugar is sound, fair and marketable quality, dry, in homogeneous granulated, free-flowing crystals. White sugar of the standard quality shall have the following characteristics:

  • Polarization:                            99.7% min
  • moisture content:                     0.06% max
  • invert sugar content:                0.04% max

The number of points determined in accordance with the following scale shall not exceed a total of 22, nor:

  • maximum15 for the ash content, one point equals 0.0018%
  • maximum 9 for the colour type, one point plus 0.5 units
  • maximum 6 for the colouring of the solution, one point equals 7.5 units
