Salt is dried, sieved, edible and iodized for human consumption. Specification is on dry matter basis content.

  • sodium chloride as NaCl: 99.16%
  • moisture content: 1.7% max
  • iodine: 44.5 - 75 ppm iodine - or - 75 ppm min - 125 ppm max iodine in the form of KIO3
  • alkalinity as Na2CO3: 0.07% max
  • acid insoluble matter: 0.02% max
  • barium (spot test): no trace
  • colour: shall be white and 10 g of salt in 100 ml water shall give a colourless solution having a neutral reaction
