Fortified Biscuits / High Energy Biscuits (HEB)

High Energy Biscuits, 10 to 20 g each, fit for human consumption, shelf life of 18 to 24 months, manufactured in conformity with US or EU food legislation.

Biscuits shall be manufactured from high quality wheat flour, vegetable oils, sugar and other ingredients and according to the Recommended International Code of Practice – General Principles of Food Hygiene CAD/RCP 1-1969, Rev.4, 2003.

Biscuits shall be of the following minimum nutritional composition per 100 g as follows:

  • energy:                           450 kcal
  • moisture:                         4.5% maximum
  • protein:                           10 - 15 g
  • fat:                                  15 g
  • sugar:                             10-15 g maximum

Vitamins/minerals

  • Calcium:                         212.5-287.5
  • Magnesium:                    127.5-172.5 mg
  • Iron:                               9.35-12.65 mg
  • Iodine:                            63.75- 86.25 mcg
  • Folic acid:                       68-92 mcg
  • Pantothenic acid:             2.55- 3.45 mg
  • Vitamin B1:                    0.425-0.575 mg
  • Vitamin B2:                    0.595-0.805 mg
  • Vitamin B6:                    0.85- 1.15 mg
  • Vitamin B12:                  0.425- 0.575 mcg
  • Niacin;                           5.1- 6.9 mg
  • Vitamin C:                      17-23 mg
  • Vitamin A-retinol:           212.5-287.5 mcg
  • Vitamin D:                      1.615- 2.185mcg
  • Vitamin E:                       4,25- 5.75 mg

The vitamins and minerals should be in the following chemical form:

  • Calcium                          calcium carbonate
  • Magnesium                     magnesium oxide
  • Iron                                ferrous fumarate
  • Iodine                             potassium iodate
  • Folic acid                       folic acid
  • Pantothenic acid             calcium d panthotenate
  • Vitamin B1                     thiamine mononitrate
  • Vitamin B2                     riboflavin
  • Vitamin B6                     pyridoxin hydrochloride
  • Vitamin B12                   vitamin B12 - 1% in manitol
  • Niacin                            nicotinamide
  • Vitamin C                       ascorbic acid coated
  • Vitamin A                       palmitate 250 CWS
  • Vitamin D                       vitamin D3 (or D2) 100 CWS
  • Vitamin E                       vitamin E 50 CWS

Fortification premixes must be obtained from DSM, Fortitech, Hexagon Nutrition, BASF or Nicholas Piramal or their authorized dealers. A Certificate of Analysis as well as a proof of purchase will be required for payment.
